What is Papsmear?
A Pap Smear (also called a Pap Test) is a screening procedure in which cells from the cervix—the lower, narrow end of the uterus—are gently collected and examined under a microscope to identify any abnormal cell changes, including those caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus).
Who Should Get a Pap Smear?
- Women aged 21 to 65 years, especially those who are sexually active
- Every 3 years for women aged 21–29
- Every 3–5 years for women aged 30–65 (with or without HPV testing)
- Women with risk factors like:
- Family history of cervical cancer
- HIV or immunocompromised conditions
- Multiple sexual partners
- Smoking
